Utilizing the 6 Determinants of Gait to Improve Functional Mobility and Gait Patterns by Reducing Energy Expenditure and Center of Mass Displacement
Copyright :
Functional mobility and gait are some of the most widely addressed activities by therapists and trainers. Regardless of diagnosis, when we evaluate a patient and ask them what they want to accomplish the answer is usually, “I want to walk.” For decades, we have primarily relied on study and practice of the “phases of gait” to address gait and mobility abnormalities with injury, surgery, or general aging. Although impactful and warranted, the phases of gait often focus primarily on “average” mechanics and neglect areas critical for safe mobility and energy conservation. This course will help you re-discover the six determinants of gait and allow you to drastically add to your understanding of mobility beyond the mechanics. You will learn evidence-based exercises, activities, and treatment strategies for each determinant that can directly impact not only gait, but everyday function, mobility, and safety with your patients.
