Many clinicians working with body shame know how tough it is for clients to change the narrative about their bodies. Weight stigma, diet culture, family mythology and trauma may all play a part in making lasting change a tough road. In this presentation, we will explore interventions that build a resilient foundation for body acceptance and challenging diet culture and weight stigma. We will discuss the use of trauma-informed care to keep the healing moving forward, and end with how to best help clients find their own body stories and keep their voice, even in a cultural milieu that reinforces body shame and distrust.
